Privacy Policy

Last updated: August 11, 2026. This is a working draft for legal review before publishing — not a substitute for attorney review. Sauceur LLC is a placeholder throughout; do not publish until the company is formally incorporated and this is replaced with the real entity name.

This Privacy Policy describes how Sauceur LLC ("Sauceur," "we," "us," "our") collects, uses, and discloses information when you use the Sauceur app and website (together, the "Service"), and explains your rights regarding that information.

Definitions

• "Personal Data" means any information that relates to an identified or identifiable individual.
• "Service" refers to the Sauceur mobile app and the website at sauceur.com.
• "Usage Data" means data collected automatically through your use of the Service (device type, IP address, pages visited, etc.).
• "You" means the individual using the Service.
• For purposes of the GDPR, Sauceur LLC is the Data Controller. For purposes of the CCPA, Sauceur LLC is the Business.

What We Collect

Information you give us directly:

• Email address and username, when you create an account
• Avatar image, if you upload one
• Heat preference, favorite sauce categories, and flavor preferences, if you set them during onboarding or in your profile
• City and state, if you choose to provide them (self-reported — we do not collect precise device location)
• Age range, if you provide it
• Ratings: the sauce, food pairing, numeric score, and any comment (up to 280 characters) you submit
• Sauce submissions, if you suggest a sauce for us to add
• Email address, if you sign up for updates without creating a full account (e.g., on our events page)

Information collected automatically:

• Search queries you enter and which sauce (if any) you click on as a result
• Which purchase links you click through to a retailer (we record the sauce and product, not any payment information — we never see or store payment details, which are handled entirely by the retailer)
• Standard technical data your device or browser sends automatically (IP address, device type, app version, and similar diagnostic data), including through our error-monitoring tool, Sentry

We do not collect: precise device geolocation, payment card numbers, biometric data, or government ID numbers.

How We Use It

• To operate the Service: show you sauces, pairing scores, your rating history, and a feed of activity from people you follow
• To power search, discovery, and leaderboard features
• To improve our sauce database and understand which sauces need better data
• To send you communications you've opted into (see Email Communications below)
• To detect and prevent abuse, spam, and fraudulent activity
• In aggregated, de-identified form only, to eventually help sauce brands and retailers understand pairing trends as part of future brand partnership features — as of this policy's last update, this program has not yet launched, and no individually identifiable rating or activity data is shared with brands or retailers

Email Communications

If you'd like to stop receiving marketing emails from us, you can turn this off in Settings or use the unsubscribe link in any email we send. Account-related emails (password resets, security notices) are not affected by this preference, since they're necessary for account security.

Sharing and Disclosure

We do not sell your personal information.

We may share information with:

• Service providers who help us run the Service: Supabase (database and authentication), Sanity (content management), Sentry (error monitoring)
• Amazon, when you click a purchase link — governed by Amazon's own privacy policy from that point
• Other users, for information you choose to make public (your username, public ratings, and public profile, unless your profile is set to private)
• Law enforcement or other parties, if required by law, to protect our legal rights, or to protect the safety of our users or the public
• A successor entity, if Sauceur is involved in a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets — you'll be notified before your data becomes subject to a different privacy policy

Data Retention

We retain your data for as long as your account is active. You can permanently delete your account and its associated personal data at any time from Settings, in both the app and on the website. Some aggregated, non-identifiable data (such as a sauce's overall average rating) may remain after deletion since it is no longer tied to you individually. We may retain limited data longer where required by law or necessary to resolve disputes.

Security

We use reasonable technical measures to protect your data, including access controls on our database and encrypted connections. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

Your Rights (GDPR — if you are in the EEA)

You have the right to access, correct, delete, or request a portable copy of your Personal Data, and to object to or withdraw consent for certain processing. Most of these actions are available directly in Settings; for anything else, contact us using the information below.

We do not sell personal information, as "sell" is defined under the CCPA.

You have the right to: know what personal information we collect and why; request a copy of it; request deletion; and not be discriminated against for exercising these rights. To exercise any of these rights, contact us using the information below. We may need to verify your identity before fulfilling a request.

Children's Privacy

Sauceur is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us with personal information, contact us and we will take steps to remove it.

Nutritional Information

Nutritional information displayed in the Sauceur app is labeled according to its verification status. Information marked "Verified" has been cross-referenced against manufacturer-submitted data in the USDA FoodData Central database. Information marked "Needs Review" or similarly labeled has not been independently verified and may be inaccurate. Sauceur is not responsible for nutritional information displayed on third-party websites linked from the app, including retailer product pages.

Links to Other Websites

The Service contains links to third-party sites, including retailer purchase links. We are not responsible for the privacy practices of sites we don't operate.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We'll update the "Last updated" date above and, for material changes, provide additional notice (such as an in-app notification or email).
